Sheriff Darren White says the girl was about to be harmed
Bernalillo Country deputies say they rescued a missing girl in the nick of time Monday in southwest Albuquerque.
California authorities contacted the sheriff's office Monday evening asking them to check out a house on Kelly Avenue near Atrisco. They were looking for a missing 16-year-old girl from the Los Angeles area.
When deputies got to the house, they looked in the window and saw the teen inside with a man. Authorities say she was in immediate danger, but wouldn't elaborate.
"Deputies wasted no time," Sheriff Darren White said. "What they witnessed was chilling."
White says that had deputies not shown up when they did, something bad was likely going to happen to the girl.
The man has been arrested and the girl was taken to the hospital to get checked out. The sheriff would not say if there were signs of any injuries or abuse.
The FBI is now handling the case.
