Traffic on Paseo del Norte and Coors Tuesday morning was alternatively crawling or at a standstill
An accident that killed one man early Tuesday morning had West Side commuters who were trying to cross the Rio Grande alternatively traveling at a crawl or sitting at a standstill.
According to Erin Kinnard Thompson, spokeswoman for the sheriff's department, the crash involved a car and a motorcycle at Coors and Paseo del Norte. The male driver of the motorcycle died at the scene. He was identified as 47-year-old Phillip Precord.
Kinnard says the motorcycle rider was in the far right lane and attempting to enter the middle lane when an orange or rust colored truck in front of him braked, causing him to brake and lose control.
A black vehicle behind the motorcyclist ran over him. The driver of the black vehicle stopped and police determined that alcohol was not a factor in either drivers' actions.
Police would like the driver of the orange or rust colored truck to contact them.
Police closed eastbound Paseo del Norte at about 6:30 as the morning commute was beginning. It was reopened shortly before 10:00.
Meanwhile, Albuquerque police were cleaning up a separate accident at Coors and Montano, further impeding the West Side traffic flow. Police say a pickup hit a bicyclist. No word on injuries.
