Ryan Vigil

One of two Albuquerque men charged with killing an Albuquerque woman, dumping her body in a pit and lighting it on fire was found hanging in his jail cell Wednesday night. He was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon.

Ryan Vigil was discovered hanging by a sheet at about 8:45, according to a press release from the Metropolitan Detention Center.

Medical aid was immediately administered to Vigil and he was transferred to University of New Mexico Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:10 p.m.

Vigil and Christopher Midyette, both 19, are charged with killing 20-year-old Brittni Carlini, who was reported missing last Friday.

Carlini had reportedly arrived at Vigil's home Thursday evening to retrieve a snowboard when the two argued. Midyette allegedly struck Carlini in the head with a baseball bat, killing her.

"They took Brittni, they put her in the back of the vehicle, they took her to an undisclosed location in Rio Rancho, dug a hole for her, placed her body in the hole and they burned her body," APD spokeswoman Nadine Hamby said after Vigil and Midyette were arrested on November 8th.
