Usually, baby showers come before the baby enters the world, but for a special baby at the Rio Grande Zoo, her baby shower came two months after her birth.

Newborn elephant Daizy is already one of the most popular animals at the Rio Grande Zoo.

Elephant Manager Ted Trujillo said Saturday, "Since we announced the birth— that Rosy was pregnant, we've had a lot of support from the people of Albuquerque as well as around the country."

Born at 318 pounds and 42 inches tall, two-month-old Daizy is growing fast.

"Right now, she's well over like 450 pounds, and she's over, you know, 45 inches," Trujillo said.

The Rio Grande Zoo opted to hold Daizy’s baby shower after her birth so guests could see her in action.

"Daisy's birth is very significant," Trujillo said. "She's a 3rd generation animal."

Daizy’s mom, Rosy, was born at the Rio Grande Zoo as well, and Rosy’s mom came to the zoo in 1974.

Visitor Samantha Bousilman said, "It was fun to look at the registry and see all the big item items- that all the things that elephants play with."

From water hoses to bug zappers, even a DVD player— Daizy was literally showered in gifts.

"We made a small donation, so they could get whatever the baby elephant needed," Bousilman said.

There were also some traditional baby shower games, and guests signed a big card and enjoyed some of the usual baby girl goodies, like pink cupcakes and pink punch.
