Two people in this car died when it crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a semi

Snow and freezing cold made for dangerous and even deadly driving conditions in New Mexico this weekend.

A car driving westbound on I-40 through Prewitt crossed into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with a semi truck. Two people were killed. One person who was in the back seat of the car was transported to the hospital with injuries.

Tow truck driver D.J. Hobland said the weather wasn't too bad—but the interstate was a different story.

"The snow was fairly decent. The roads just got slick on them, froze up on them," he said.

In the East Mountains, blizzard-like conditions were seen Sunday morning. Crews were forced to shut down all lanes of I-40 eastbound traffic.

Once the weather started to let up, police opened one lane of traffic while they dealt with a semi accident in another lane. No serious injuries were reported.
