Logan Collins died after being struck by a pickup truck Wednesday.
The Los Alamos community gathered Monday to remember a 12-year-old boy who died after being hit by a pickup truck.

A memorial service was held for Logan Collins at Los Alamos Middle School, where he was a 7th grade student.

Collins died Wednesday after stepping off a city bus just down the hill from his school.  He was attempting to cross the street when he was hit by a truck.

"Some of the kids in the class saw him get hit.  So they're very shocked and very silent," said classmate Irene Gerrish.

At Monday's memorial, friends described Collins as someone who could light up a room.

"He was really nice and he brought happiness to everybody," said Gerrish.

"He was just a cute kid and had a happy personality," said friend Megan Hollowell.  "I was very sad… I was just wondering why God took him, and God has a plan in all this.  We just don't know the plan yet."

A makeshift memorial on the street where Collins was hit continues to grow.  Flowers, balloons and basketballs - one of Collins' favorite sports - have been placed in his memory.

Los Alamos police say they are working with the district attorney's office on the investigation and hope to be finished next week.  At that time they will determine if any charges will be filed in the death.
