MEADOW LAKE, N.M. (AP) - Valencia County animal control officers are busy trapping and euthanizing the estimated 100 cats living at a filthy Meadow Lake house.
The officers have two weeks to remove the animals after a judge ordered the homeowner, 48-year-old Heide Berge, to leave the home so officers could do their job.
Valencia County Animal Control Director Eric Tanner said Berge and the cats were living among unimaginable filth with cat feces on pretty much everything from the stove and furniture to the cabinets.
Tanner said officers have captured more than 25 cats so far and believe there are at least 60 to 70 more inside.
