EUNICE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Police say Eunice's fire chief and four firefighters have been arrested on various felonies relating to a Dec. 4 theft.

Fire Chief Ronald Grogan and firefighters Danny Cueto and John Dudley, who were paid city employees, and volunteer Capts. Dustin Lord and Fernando Espino were arrested Wednesday.

State Police spokesman Eric Garcia says Grogan was charged with burglary and two counts of tampering with evidence.

Garcia says the other four were each charged with conspiracy to tamper with evidence. Dudley also was charged with tampering with evidence.

City Manager Curtis Schrader says the charges stem from a theft of the radar detector from a wrecked vehicle.

Eunice Mayor Matt White says the arrests won't affect the city's fire or emergency services.
