Senate votes to override governor's veto

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The Senate has voted to override a veto of legislation that would have required Gov. Bill Richardson to turn over confidential information to the Legislature.

The Legislative Finance Committee has sought information about Medicaid from a state agency, but it was denied because the administration contends the material is confidential.

The Legislature passed a bill last year that would have allowed the LFC to receive confidential information from agencies and protect it against disclosure to the public. However, Richardson vetoed the measure.

The Senate voted 34-to-8 on Monday to override the veto. To enact a bill over the governor's objections, the House also would have to vote by a two-thirds majority to override the veto.
