This week's Best Bites is all about soul food.
Nexus Brewery, on the I-25 northbound frontage road at Montgomery, is certainly known for its variety of beers.
But the word around town is also about the soul food Nexus is dishing up.
The menu include items like red beans and rice with andouille sausage.
Head chef Alan Molina, also cooks up a mean fish and chips, with the fish coated in cornmeal and served up with beer battered fries.
You can have southern cooking without some collard greens.
But the real crowd pleaser is the fried chicken with waffles.
"You can call it dinner, lunch, you can call it what you want. I call it yumminess," says Molina.
Owner Ken Carson traded in 19 years of banking for brewing about a year ago. He got the Nexus name from Star Trek but the menu idea came with a little help from mom.
"The traditions of Southern cooking go hand in hand with my family, so when we started working on it I talked to my mom and discussed different ideas of what we should put on our menu," Carson says.
But when asked if he was from the South, Carson responded, "No, I'm a native, from here in Albuquerque. I was born and raised here."
