SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Two Democratic legislative leaders are asking New Mexico Attorney General Gary King to investigate whether a spokesman for Gov. Susana Martinez's Public Education Department broke the law by using state resources for political purposes.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that a King spokesman said Thursday that no investigation had been launched but that the attorney general was aware of the request.

In question is a May 2 email sent by Public Education Department spokesman Larry Behrens to the Republican governor's political consultant, Jay McCleskey.

The message, which both Behrens and McCleskey say was in response to a verbal records request, indicates PED employees and computers were used to compile a list of nonunion teachers and their state email addresses.

That list of all state teachers were then sent to McCleskey.
