Albuquerque host parent kills self during foreign exchange student party

Several foreign exchange students at UNM were having a party when a host father suddenly killed himself, Albuquerque police said.
Marc Herrera, 37, reportedly arrived at his Northeast Heights home heavily intoxicated. He grew irritated
He reportedly told the students to move into another room at gunpoint. Herrera then forced his wife to shoot him as they both held onto the gun, police said.
Neighbor were shocked at the news.
"My husband looked out, they went across the street and knocked on the door," Heidi Adelman said. "Of course we didn't know what transpired. It was a very tough night. Tougher morning, and kinda hard to believe."
Herrera was a Major with the U.S. Air Force. He was the host parent for a foreign exhange student attending UNM.
None of the students reported any injuries.
