A KOB 4 On Your Side investigation has led to serious consequences for a New Mexico doctor.

In February, 4 On Your Side reported on Dr. Pawan Kumar Jain, a Las Cruces neurologist who wrote more prescriptions in a year than the entire University of New Mexico medical school.

Shortly after we visited him, the Drug Enforcement Administration raided his office.

Now, the New Mexico Medical Board has suspended his license, saying he was over-prescribing to patients.

The board also found 17 toxicity related deaths that occurred under Dr. Jain's care.

After the original story aired in February, 4 On Your side heard from people who said Jain prescribed the medication that killed their loved ones.

"The drugs he prescribed to him killed him and the strength that he gave him, you know...killed him. No doubt in my mind..." said Charles Tharp, the father of Jain's former patient.

Tharp filed a wrongful death lawsuit in his son's death but he lost.

Dr. Jain will have until the end of July to request a hearing with the medical board on their findings.

No criminal charges have been filed against him.
