The race for U.S. president heated up a little bit in New Mexico today as protesters pounded the pavement at Mitt Romney's Albuquerque headquarters.
"Hey hey hey - ho ho ho - Romney's cash has got to go!"
That was the protestor's chant, amplified with a bullhorn.
They were from MoveOn, a liberal grassroots organization that is among the groups demanding that the Republican nominee release more tax returns.
Romney released his 2010 tax returns.
"Where the money went, where it came from, what it did, where he was connected," said protester Terry Reilly. "For somebody who's gonna be my president, I need to know that he is what he says."
The protest took the Romney people by surprise.
They're just moving into their new headquarters in a business complex on Comanche just east of I-25. They didn't even have their sign up yet.
Later in the day Romney's people did release a statement, saying that "Barack Obama is looking for anything to talk about except his economic record."
The protesters hand-delivered a letter to the Romney campaign demanding the release of the tax returns.
A staffer politely accepted the letter.
MoveOn points out that way back in 1968, when Romney's father George Romney was running for president, he released 12 years of tax returns.
