SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A 29-year-old woman who was under the influence of drugs when she crashed her car and killed her son has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Blood tests showed that Deven Martinez had cocaine and methadone in her system at the time.

Authorities have said that Martinez rear-ended a tractor-trailer on N.M. 584 in June 2010.

Her 3-year-old son, Luie, died at the scene. Her then 18-month-old daughter also was injured.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that Martinez was tearful during Tuesday's sentencing hearing.

She told a judge that losing a child has been the worst type of punishment. Martinez had pleaded guilty to single counts of vehicular homicide and causing great bodily harm.

A judge gave her credit for the 13 months she's served so far.
