In this week's Best Bites, we're exploring Turkish flavor.
Located on 6th north of Central in downtown Albuquerque, Anatolia Doner Kebab House serves up authentic Turkish food.
The marinating and cooking process gets started early at Anatolia thanks to Chef Mehmet Kokangul and his brother Umut who helps him run the restaurant.
It's only been at its new location for six months, but Umut says business is picking up thanks to word of mouth.
"Our first customers we were so happy, I'm like wooo! Then that customer brought three more customers and those three brought more and more," he says.
They use the word "customer" very loosely at Anatolia.
"First time they are customers. Second time, third time, fourth time, they are friends and they are coming back. After seven or eight they are family," says Mehmet.
It's that family value that got Mehmet in the kitchen as a child in his native Adana, Turkey.
He learned to cook items like the chicken doner kebab, which is some of the juiciest chicken you'll ever taste.
Chef Mehmet says he uses nine spices - plus love.
"I want to make everybody happy when they're eating," Mehmet says.
Anatolia's other specialty is the Adana shish kebab, which is ground meat with spices cooked on a big metal skewer served up with rice, salad, and a roasted green chile.
Also, be sure to save room for their desserts which are baked daily and try a turkish coffee with them.
Daily lunch specials are available for $5.99.
