ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A group of food vendors is trying to renegotiate lower rent for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta to keep food prices from rising.
The group plans to meet Monday with balloon fiesta officials.
The vendors are unhappy with a new contract that requires them to turn over 30 percent of their total sales for the October event or pay a fixed rental fee, whichever is higher.
The vendors are seeking a two-week extension on their contract deadline while they pursue a compromise.
Balloon Fiesta board member Jim Garcia tells the Albuquerque Journal that he's unsure the contract can be changed.
He defends it as fair but says the officials will listen to the vendors' concerns.
Florida-based Ovation Food Services now manages the fiesta's food vendors.
