SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A La Cienega man acquitted of cockfighting charges is suing Santa Fe County, saying he was singled out in an investigation because he owned roosters and is Hispanic.

Raul Trinidad-Enriquez and his two roommates allege in a lawsuit filed earlier this month that authorities did not have search or arrest warrants to collect evidence at his home in July 2010.

Sheriff Robert Garcia tells the Albuquerque Journal that race doesn't determine the crimes his office investigates.

Trinidad-Enriquez was acquitted in May on 12 counts of training, equipping or sponsoring a bird for cockfighting for monetary gain or entertainment.

His lawsuit levels 16 complaints against the county, Garcia's office and the animal control office.

He is seeking unspecified damages in state district court.
