Albuquerque police say they are investigating a report of child abuse that allegedly happened Tuesday morning at a Northeast Heights apartment.

Police tell us several people called to report that a man identified as Jwyanza Vallantyne was seen holding his daughter, 2, in the air by her hair while simultaneously holding a hammer cocked behind his shoulder.

The incident apparently occurred while Vallantyne was fighting with the toddler's mother, Anna Odiot at an apartment on Eubank NE.

Witnesses told police that a 12-year-old-child in the home was able to take the toddler away from Vallantyne and left the apartment.

Both children were later found safe in another apartment.

Vallantyne was caught one block away and was arrested.
