TAOS, N.M. (AP) - A northern New Mexico native is taking over as supervisor of the Carson National Forest. Buck Sanchez starts the job in mid-September.
The graduate of Raton High School has worked in each of New Mexico's national forests.
He currently serves as the deputy forest supervisor at the White River National Forest in Glenwood Springs, Colo.
Sanchez says he has strong connections to natural resource management as the son of a horse foreman on the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron.
His great grandfather also was a farmer and rancher in northern New Mexico. Sanchez has a bachelor's and master's degrees from New Mexico universities.
