University of New Mexico football coach Bob Davie dismissed  sophomore defensive back Zoey Williams from the team and suspended indefinitely junior quarterback David Vega and sophomore defensive back Tim Foley.

The discipline is a result of violations of team rules that occurred on Friday night. The three players were sent back to Albuquerque on Saturday morning.

While Williams is gone, Davie left the door open for a "possible" return for Vega and Foley.  "I'm big about how someone responds.  They (Vega and Foley) would have been dismissed totally if they didn't respond the way I thought they should have responded when I first met with them."

Davie would not elaborate on details about the violation, but he thought an incident like this could actually help team chemistry.  "I told our team two days ago, you have to get through all the superficial stuff and the feel good atmosphere, I mean you gotta hit rock bottom, and that's when you find out about chemistry and start developing leadership.  I think the fact we dismissed one guy and suspended two, I think that helps us.  Beacuse when you get in that game and they start hitting you in the mouth and all of the sudden you lose 3 or 4 games in a row, that's what this is.  We talk around here about sudden change and how you react to those kind of moments, well we're in one of those right now."

The players in Ruidoso feel like this could be a rallying point.  "It affects us, but we have to come together as a team," said senior defensive back Freddy Young.

"At the end of the day we're a team.  We're about New Mexico and we have to band together and keep going forward," said defensive lineman Jacori Greer.
