Most people go to the mall to shop for what's inside, but police said they found one man looking for something on the roof.
Eddie Castillo is accused of stealing more than a thousand dollars worth of copper wiring from Winrock Mall. According to the criminal complaint, Castillo was caught stripping copper from air conditioning units on the roof of Winrock Mall.
A security guard spotted Castillo on the roof frantically running and looking for a way to get down.
The Albuquerque Fire Department came with a ladder truck to get access to the roof, according to the report. Once officers arrived, they found a bag with a drill, pipe cutter, flashlight and pliers.
Surveillance video showed Castillo in the act removing copper from five air conditioning units and collecting it in a bag off the side of the building, police said.
Based on the criminal complaint, it appears Castillo shimmied his way off the roof while officers were there.
Castillo was arrested at a nearby apartment complex.
Mall security refused to comment on the matter or show any of the surveillance video because of pending litigation.
