One local girl is making a big difference for hundreds of kids in New Mexico.

As a part of her girl scout project, Brianna Swinderman has managed to gather more than 1,300 bags for the Children, Youth and Families Department and the Haven House.

The purpose was to give the kids bags or luggage to call their own, rather than use trash bags to carry their belongings.

And now, she's running in a national competition.

Swinderman says she just wanted to give the children a sense of dignity.

The items were all donated through various clubs and agencies in the area.
