LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Health officials expect to find mosquitoes in Dona Ana County with the West Nile virus even though none have been found there so far this year.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that two horses from the same farm in the Mesilla Valley were infected with West Nile in late July.
The two infected horses have since recovered. They had both received the West Nile vaccination last year, but hadn't received booster shots this year.
So far in 2012, two people from New Mexico have been infected with West Nile.
Officials say the 63-year-old man from Bernalillo County was hospitalized with severe neurological distress, but he's recovering at home.
The 67-year-old man from San Miguel County suffered a less severe attack of West Nile and returned home from the hospital
