Albuquerque boxer Johnny Tapia's wife says he died from heart disease and hypertension, not a drug overdose.

Teresa Tapia announced this at a news conference Wednesday. It was not clear whether her statement was based on an autopsy report.

Tapia, a five-time world champion, was found dead in his bed on May 27.

Tapia, 45, struggled with drug use and depression throughout his life.

Police have said they found a hydrocodone pill next to his body.

They also found 200 more pills in a safe, along with other medications, including treatment for a bipolar disorder.

However, was not clear at the time whether Tapia overdosed on drugs.
