The high school football season kicks off on Thursday. How does your high school football team's schedule size up? Here's a rundown for some teams in the metro area.
Albuquerque: The Bulldogs longest road trip is to Moriarty.
Atrisco Heritage: Former Manzano head coach Aaron O'Campo brings his Centennial team to Albuquerque to take on the Jaguars in week 3.
Cibola: Their longest road trip is to Milne Stadium in Albuquerque.
Cleveland: The final home game of the season against Rio Rancho should be one to watch.
Eldorado: The Eagles have Las Cruces AND Mayfield on the schedule with the Trojans coming to Albuquerque after Eldorado first makes the trip south to take on the Bulldawgs.
Highland: The Hornets open the year with back-to-back road games at Rio Rancho and Clovis.
La Cueva: The Bears were knocked out of the playoffs by Cleveland last season and La Cueva opens the year against the Storm. Can you say payback?
Manzano: The Monarchs will face a murderer's row of matchups when they take on Clovis, Mayfield and Aztec in three consecutive weeks.
Rio Rancho: I don't know if you'll find a tougher three-game stretch than Goddard, Las Cruces and Clovis. Even though they won't admit it, I'm sure the date against Cleveland in the season finale is circled on their calendar.
Rio Grande: Outside of a tough road trip to Carlsbad in week 6, the Ravens don't leave the city limits.
Sandia: Week 8 the Matadors make the trip to Clovis to take on the Wildcats right before district starts.
Valley: First year head coach Enrico Marcelli will match wits with his former boss Judge Chavez right out of the gate in week 1.
Volcano Vista: Their week 6 matchup against Mayfield down south will be their toughest test. Head coach Chad Wallin will take on his former assistant on October 12th when they face Del Norte.
West Mesa: Head coach Ron McMath will take on his former Cibola athletes in week 5.
Be sure to see your favorite team this season on New Mexico Gameday every Friday night at 10:35pm.
