ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico Tech has been awarded more than $1 million to boost the number of science, technology, engineering and math degrees offered at colleges that serve northern New Mexico.
The grant funding comes from the National Science Foundation. It was announced this week by U.S. Sen. Tom Udall.
The New Mexico Democrat says the grant will make it possible for more colleges in underserved areas to produce a new generation of graduates in science-related fields.
The grant will help improve students' ability to transfer credits, increase graduation rates and provide more research opportunities.
Udall's office says the project is expected to serve more than 600 students.
The project includes a consortium of six small New Mexico colleges that are located in rural areas.
