SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The Game and Fish Department advises hikers, bicyclists and others to wear bright clothing if they are in the back country to ensure they are visible to hunters.

Hunting seasons open Saturday for elk, deer, grouse, doves, squirrels and band-tailed pigeons.

The deer and elk seasons in September are for bow and arrow hunters.

Rifle and muzzleloader seasons are in October and November.

Some antelope hunting starts Sept. 8.

The department estimates 60,000 people will hunt elk and deer through the end of the year and perhaps 25,000 hunters for small game and waterfowl.
