LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A city panel in Las Cruces soon will consider a proposal to build the city's first topless dancing bar in an industrial area near U.S. 70.

Promoters of the club dubbed "The Bronx" say it would benefit the city's economy by increasing tax revenue and employing 30 to 50 people.

But club opponents aren't hard to find. Catholic Diocese of Las Cruces Bishop Ricardo Ramirez tells the Las Cruces Sun-News that he was disappointed and saddened when he heard of the proposal.

He says the club is another sign that society has "gone crazy" over sexuality. The city Planning and Zoning Commission will take up the proposal on Sept. 25.
