The bad news is the Lobo football team got skunked at Texas, losing 45-0. The good news is they left town with $1 million, a payday for coming to play the Longhorns.
UNM suffered a casualty though. Quarterback BR Holbrook left the game after receiving a blow to the head and ribs in the first half. X-rays on his ribs were negative. His status for this week is unknown at this point.
A crowd of 100,990 watched Saturday's game in Austin, the most ever to watch a Lobo team play. The Lobos have not scored in three meetings against Texas, losing by scores of 47-0 (1948), 47-0 (1988) and 45-0 (2012).
After not turning the ball over once in their season-opener against Southern, UNM fumbled the ball three times (losing one) and also threw an interception. Against Southern, UNM was flagged for only one penalty. Saturday in Austin, UNM was penalized eight times for 50 yards.
UNM quarterback Cole Gautsche still has yet to complete a pass.
Next up for the Lobos is Texas Tech in Lubbock on Saturday.
