SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe is facing heat for its hosting of this year's Zozobra burning.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that the group is facing criticism over everything from ticket prices to the music selections.

Some residents have started an online petition to lower ticket prices and make the event more family friendly.

Ray Valdez, organizer of the annual Zozobra, said the Kiwanis Club inherited the event from the late artist Will Shuster in 1964. He said several problems at this year's event were out of the group's control, such as the wind delay that affected more than just the burn time.

The burning of Zozobra is one of the highlights of Santa Fe Fiestas in which an effigy is burned to get rid of the year's doom and gloom.
