TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, N.M. (AP) - State Parks officials have closed the boat ramps at Caballo Lake State Park and are barring the use of motorized boats because of low water levels.

The lake on the Rio Grande south of Truth or Consequences has seen its water levels drop because of low snowpack and rainfall last winter and water use for irrigation.

Parks director Tommy Mutz says irrigation ended on Sept. 12 and water levels are expected to slowly recover in the coming weeks.

The lake remains open for canoeing, kayaking and other non-motorized watercraft.
