A big shakeup in Mitt Romney's New Mexico campaign appears to indicate trouble for the Republican presidential candidate in the state.
Romney's campaign is pulling two key staffers from New Mexico and moving them elsewhere in the campaign. The two being moved are Romney's communications director and his Hispanic outreach director.
It's a pretty clear signal that the tires are flat, the engine is knocking, and Romney's hot rod is losing the race in New Mexico. He has been trailing President Barack Obama in all the polls.
"You see that streak of white going by," politics blogger Joe Monahan of joemonahan.com said "That's Mitt Romney throwing in the towel. We're gonna move New Mexico from Lean Obama to Likely Obama based on the developments today. You don't move key staffers out of here unless you've written off the state."
"The GOP Victory organization will maintain a presence in New Mexico and continue talking to voters about how President Obama's economic policies have failed new Mexico and Governor Romney's plan to strengthen the middle class," Republican National Committee spokesman Ted Kwong said.
Last Month the National Republican Senatorial Committee pulled $3 million worth of television advertisement money for Heather Wilson in her U.S. Senate race against Democrat Martin Heinrich.
So Romney didn't need an Old Testament prophet to read the writing on the wall. The ink appears to be blue in New Mexico, not red.
Despite the move in New Mexico, the national race is close with Obama enjoying an average 3 point lead in the polling right now, but that number fluctuates day by day.
