At least one parent is outraged over his daughter having to be friends with her high school soccer coach the popular social media website Facebook.
Coach Samantha Lucero of Volcano High School made a team policy that all junior varsity and varsity players must be friends with her on Facebook.
The policy reads: "All players (JV and varsity) are required to request the head coach (Samantha Lucero) on Facebook. Players will abide by all of my social media rules. Cyber bullying, inappropriate pictures, ect on facebook, twitter, ect WILL NOT BE TOLERATED."
But Steven Roberts said the policy oversteps the player/coach relationship.
"This is way outside the bounds of a school system," he said. "APS has no right to be monitoring my childs facebook page."
Roberts said when he went to school officials about the problem, they said the policy was so that players did not embarrass the school.
"Well, this isn't a school-wide policy, this is for a team only," he said. "So if they're worried about embarrassment to entire school, then they should want to monitor everyone's facebook page," Roberts said.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 reached out to Albuquerque Public Schools and Lucero.
The District said Roberts never gave his name or which school he had a problem with, so they could not look into the issue.
Lucero confirmed her facebook policy and said she had no comment beyond that.
Roberts said he also spoke with the Volcano Vista High School administration and the District about this problem.
"Told them who I was. I told them where my daughter went to school. They know who I am, and they definitely know which school it is," he said.
Roberts said he even spoke with the District Athletic Director Ken Barreras, but said Barreras has not returned any of his calls in nearly two weeks.
Roberts said he would not stop until the policy cannot happen anywhere.
"And obviously there's no policy against it at APS, which is gonna be my goal to make this against APS policy," he said.
