Sunday marked the 11th annual Walk to Defeat ALS or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, in Albuquerque.

ALS is more commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease.

The walk began at Sunday morning at Isotopes Park.

Organizers said their fundraising goal this year is to raise $140,000 and half of that money is expected to come from the walk.

They say much of the money comes from people with ALS.

"I think anyone who has been through ALS, has lived with ALS - they have a pretty strong connection - their friends and family has seen what they've gone through and they will continue to come out here and support the cause and fundraise until we find a cause and cure," Organizer Kerrie Copelin said.

The money raised through the walk helps support groups, get equipment for people with ALS and support the ALS clinic at the University of New Mexico hospital.
