LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) - Las Vegas City Schools officials are racing to clean up a middle school after a photo circulated on Facebook showing a rodent outside the cafeteria.

The Las Vegas Optic reports that the New Mexico Environment Department gave district officials until Friday to clean Memorial Middle School following an inspection that pointed out a number of violations.

A report said rodent droppings were found beneath the trophy case and on the floor near a hole.

In addition, the State Fire Marshal's Office put the district on notice that all of its schools inside city limits needed to be on fire watch.

The office said the district failed to file the required paperwork showing that a third party inspector had looked at fire systems in the schools.
