A 16-year-old Four Corners boy is in custody after deputies said he stabbed a man nine times early Tuesday morning.

San Juan County sheriff deputies said 59-year-old Steven Gutierrez was stabbed by the teen at Angel Peak RV Park near Bloomfield around 5 a.m.

Authorities said the suspect used a large kitchen knife, and left before deputies arrived on scene.

Because the scene was so chaotic with the 911 call, deputies did not know it was a stabbing at first.

"There was some sort of disturbance going on," said San Juan County Sgt. David Pixton." At that point, we lost connection with the caller, we regained it or 911 regained the connection with the caller and he was pleading for help."

Gutierrez was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.

Deputies believe this was an isolated incident.
