Bernalillo County recently completed a three-quarter mile segment of the Alameda Trail, which may not sound like much of a distance, but it can save miles and long waits trying to get into the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Park.

To get to the balloon park from the Alameda Trail, go north at the bike trail that runs parallel to the North Diversion Channel.

A bike valet service is also offered at Gate 8 at the south end of the balloon park, which is staffed by a local group of bike volunteers. The volunteers will watch over the bikes for free while visitors enjoy the event. The hours of operation are mornings from 5:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. and evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The total project cost $2.4 million, which includes the costs of design, construction, and right of way, according to a press release.
