Four Corners' students mourn one of their own

A Four Corners high school is trying to deal with the death of one of its students, and a fight involving six teens in the schoolyard and online bullying that got way out of control.
Kirtland High School parent, Trina Mailboy, received a letter from the school telling her a student had died.
“To me it breaks my heart because that could be anybody's child," she said. "It could be mine."
Shiprock police told KOB Eyewitness News 4 a family member found the teen unresponsive at home. They don't suspect foul play.
The school sent out the letter to parents notifying them of the death, but it also informed parents of a fight after school.
“About half a dozen students who were in a fight and one student did get hurt," Central Consolidated School District spokesperson James Preminger said.
But the fight didn't end there - it simply moved online.
“A lot of people have gone on there and have really escalated the issue," Preminger said.
Preminger said there was no connection between the online arguing and the fight in the schoolyard to the student's death.
"Just bad things seemed to happen all at once," he said.
So, that's why the school mentioned them all in the same letter.
For now, the school has held assemblies with students about the issues. There has also been an increase of local law enforcement at the school.
“The school is safe," Preminger said. "It's a safe place to be."
Even so, Mailboy said she feels more could be done.
“They need to go visit the classrooms. They need to really interact with the kids and they need to make sure of what goes on out there," she said.
The students involved in the fight have not been reprimanded yet since the investigation is ongoing. Grief councilors have been provided for students who knew the junior who died.
