The International Balloon Fiesta is all about the balloon-filled sky. But there's something about walking around with coffee and a breakfast burrito that's become somewhat of a tradition for many.
This year's Fiesta includes some traditional foods, but is also including some new items and vendors.
The choices might make your head blow up like a balloon. From kettle corn to Indian food, a turkey leg to a breakfast burrito, there are 42 food concessions at this year’s International Balloon Fiesta.
Peggy Minich of Albuquerque has been coming to the Balloon Fiesta since she moved here in 1976. There’s one food she always goes for.
“Funnel cake. Always. That's the one time I treat myself to funnel cake is at the fiesta. It's fantastic. There's no redeeming merit but: sugar, fat and just a good time," said Minich.
Basil’s Home Cooking is returning to Balloon Fiesta after an eight year hiatus. Co-owner Elaine Welch is bringing her state fair creation too: the donut burger.
"This is a very special event. Once a year. International. We have to be here," said Welch.
Other new vendors at the fiesta include: Chick-fil-A, an Asian restaurant serving breakfast noodles and even a vendor from Alaska serving reindeer sausage. Food and drink consession stands are along Main Street on the eastside of the launching sites.
