New Mexico voters will cast their first ballots in the Presidential Election tomorrow - but that's not the only reason October 9 is a big day in the democratic process.
The election starts at 8 a.m. Tuesday with what they call " in-person absentee" voting at county clerk offices statewide.
The first batch of thousands of absentee ballots will be mailed out, and it's also the last day you can register to vote in Election 2012.
In Bernalillo County, "in-person absentee" voting will take place at the County Annex at Lomas and 7th Street NW.
At the same time the county clerk will mail out about 17,000 absentee ballots.
Meanwhile you have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to get registered with county clerks, and if you're mailing in a registration form it must be postmarked by 5 p.m.
On October 20 the early vote goes full speed ahead statewide, with 17 voting sites here in Bernalillo County.
This election cycle is going 21st century all the way, with innovations available in Albuquerque that only a few other cities can offer.
"We will have on the county website and also downloadable to iPhones and Androids a mobile web application," said Bernalillo County Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver. "That will allow voters not only to have a map of all the early vote locations and get those directions, but also to know how long the wait is at any of those locations."
Thanks to individualized print on demand ballots, you can go to any Bernalillo County vote center, and on old-fashioned Election Day, November 6 itself, there will be 69 voting centers open al over the county.
"You won't be tied to your traditional precinct location," Toulouse Oliver said. "As a voter of this county you can vote at any voting center that's open on Election Day and those will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on November 6."
