SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A new campaign finance disclosure shows a Democratic-leaning political group has raised $386,000 in the past month, with much of it coming from labor unions.

The political action committee Patriot Majority New Mexico was formed in August to make independent campaign expenditures, including in legislative races.

The so-called super PAC reported cash-on-hand of about $779,000 at the beginning of October and has spent only about $160 since being formed.

A political committee affiliated with the National Education Association contributed $299,500 to Patriot Majority in September.

The NEA PAC previously had given $49,500. Independent expenditure groups aren't subject to New Mexico's campaign contribution limits. Patriot Majority provides Democrats with a possible counterbalance to a super PAC formed by allies of Republican Gov. Susana Martinez to target legislative races.
