APD: Wife killed husband during foreign-exchange student party

APD says wife Amy Herrera killed husband Marc Herrera during a foreign-exchange student party at their home in July. 

After more than three months of investigation, the APD Homicide Unit arrested Amy Herrera, 30, in the shooting death of Marc Herrera, 37.

Policy say Amy Herrera has been charged with the death of her husband,  which occurred on July 1 in their Northeast Albuquerque home.

Herrera, an Air Force Major, was found dead from a gunshot wound in his home shortly after 4 a.m. on July 1. 

His death was initially believed to have been a suicide that occurred as the husband and wife struggled over a gun.

A party of foreign exchange students was happening at the same time in another room of the couple's home. The couple were host parents.

The APD Homicide Unit spent the past three months conducting a complex and intricate investigation into his Mark Herrera's death.

Homicide detectives worked closely with the district attorney’s office and the Office of the Medical Investigator.

The case has now been has been handed over to the 2nd Judicial District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
