SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - An independent nominating commission is recommending three Santa Fe lawyers to Republican Gov. Susana Martinez for possible appointment to a vacant judgeship.

One of the candidates endorsed by the commission on Thursday is David Thomson, who served as a district judge for several months in 2010 but lost in the Democratic primary that year.

The commission also recommended Sylvia LaMar and Joseph Manges. It's up to the governor to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of District Judge Michael Vigil.

Seven lawyers asked to be considered by the commission. The 1st Judicial District covers Santa Fe, Rio Arriba and Los Alamos counties.
