Dulce man pleads guilty in death of 3-year-old son

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A 31-year-old Dulce man pleaded guilty Wednesday to a second-degree murder charge in the death of his son.
Federal prosecutors say Jay Rutherford Paiz admitting to killing his 3-year-old son in 2008 at his home on the Jicarilla Apache reservation.
Under an agreement with prosecutors, Paiz will face between 15 and 25 years in prison. A sentencing date hasn't been set.
Paiz has been in federal custody since his arrest on July 22, 2008. The child died of head injuries a day later.
Prosecutors say Paiz acknowledged spanking and whipping the child with a belt because he would not listen.
A medical examination showed that the boy had multiple bruises on his head, ears, back, legs and pelvis.
