University of New Mexico quarterback Cole Gautsche missed practice for the third straight day.  Gautsche hit his head on the turf at Hawaii on Saturday.  Gautsche is still not cleared to play.

"If it's Wednesday and the guy hasn't practiced, you proceed forward like he's not going to play," said head coach Bob Davie following tonight's workout.

Junior college transfer Quinton McCown will  likely backup B.R. Holbrook on Saturday at Air Force.  McCown played for Modesto Junior College in California, racking up 2500 yards of offense and 28 touchdowns.  We asked Davie if McCown was ready for the backup role.  "He'll have to be," the head coach responded.  "But if he gets in, he'll have to perform better than he's practiced."

Gautsche is the team's second leading rusher with 413 yards and five touchdowns in six games.  Davie says the gameplan for their game against the Falcons won't change.  "We are what we are.  We played New Mexico State without Cole taking a snap."

The Lobos are at Air Force on Saturday at 5pm mdt.
