FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - The town of Shiprock will finally be able to offer visitors a place to stay.

The Daily Times reports the Shiprock Chapter announced earlier this week its approval of a 25-year lease for the construction of a 50-room hotel.

Chapter Vice-President Donald Benally says the town has been waiting 40 years for its own hotel.

The lodging will include an adjacent restaurant and a swimming pool. The Shiprock Chapter has struggled for years to lure tourists for overnight visits because of the lack of hotels.

Farmington restaurant owner Rong An Chen is overseeing the $2.8 million project. Chen says construction will likely be delayed for another year. Shiprock officials say the hotel and restaurant will be leased from the Navajo Nation.
