Staff from the NMVAHCS Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Program Team will provide flu shots, distribute food, clothing, hygiene kits, and give information on VA health benefits and homeless veteran program services during "Stand Down and Project Hand-Up 2012."

The event's first day in Albuquerque, Thursday, Oct. 18, will be for veterans only, while the second day, Fri. Oct. 19, will be open to veterans and non-veterans.

The NMVAHCS HCHV program has been a leader in similar rural outreach events for homeless veterans earlier this year in Silver City and Artesia, as well as the recent Gallup Stand Down on Oct. 5.  Homeless veterans attending the stand down will be provided Department of Defense surplus items, including sleeping bags and liners, canteens, hygiene kits, cold weather jackets, under garments, gloves, pants, shirts, and back packs.

Three more events will be held:

Albuquerque - Friday, Oct. 19 at Noon Day Ministries, 101 Broadway NE from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Farmington - Sat. Oct. 27 at the San Juan College gymnasium from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call (505) 947-2645 for more information.

Santa Fe - Fri Oct. 26 and Sat. Oct. 27 at Santa Fe University of Art & Design/Alumni Hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call (505) 988-6562 for more information.
