ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A veteran federal prosecutor in Albuquerque will serve as the Justice Department's point person in New Mexico for dealing with Election Day complaints about possible voting rights abuses and voter fraud.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth Gonzales has named Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathon Gerson as election officer, who will be on duty while polls are open on Nov. 6.

Gerson will oversee the handling of election-related complaints and consult with the Justice Department in Washington, D.C.

The public can reach Gerson at 505-224-1443 or 505-346-7274. Alleged voting abuses also can be reported to the local FBI office at 505-889-1300.

Gerson was a prosecutor in high profile public corruption cases against former state Senate leader Manny Aragon and former state Treasurer Robert Vigil.
