ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico's unemployment rate dropped slightly for the month of September, down to 6.4 percent from 6.5 percent in August.

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions says that's also down from 7.4 percent a year ago.

Meanwhile, the agency says large gains were reported by the state's leisure and hospitality industries, which added 2,700 jobs between September 2011 and September 2012. Educational and health services reported adding about 1,000 jobs during the same time period, while the state's mining industry gained 900 jobs.

Professional and business services reported a loss of 3,200 jobs statewide since this time last year, while the construction industry also says it posted losses, down 3,000 jobs.
